Street Fighter II was the first fighting game that allowed players to choose from a wide variety of fighters whom had their own unique moves. For the first time in arcade history, players were studying and memorizing joystick and button combinations so they could be better at playing an arcade game.
The game brought a much needed to jolt to the arcade industry. Prior to Street Fighter II, it had been a couple of years since there was an arcade game that came out, which had people waiting in line to play.
The game might not have been the original in the series, but there would no series without it. Not only did it create a franchise, but an entire genre. There were an infinite mount of cheap rip-off fighting game that came into the market after Street Fighter II was such a big hit.
