Defender Arcade Game and Parts
Defender is hailed, even to this day, as one the most challenging and difficult games ever. It was way ahead of its time. It had the kind of controls that we're used to seeing currently. The game had 5 buttons as part of its control scheme. During the days of pac-man, it took players quite some time to get used to the controls.
The controls consisted of a joystick to move up and down, a reverse and thrust button, a fire button for shooting at the aliens, a button to activate a smart bomb, and hyperspace button which takes the spaceship to a different position in the level.
In the game, you are a spaceship and your objective is to shoot all the aliens and save the humanoids from being captured. There are six aliens you have to contend with: lander, mutant, baiter, bomber, pod, swarmer. Once you can destroy all these you move to the next level.
In saving the humanoids, you must pay attention to the sounds they make when caught. After a humanoid is caught you have to look at your radar to see where the humanoid is and shoot the lander which would save the humanoid.
